The spring 2022 menswear season, which presented actual displays in Milan and Paris, was well-attended. It was our first peek of post-pandemic casual style: unique, personal, and spontaneous, with traces of our low-key year stuck at home. Gianluca Senses photographs feature gasp, Birkenstocks, and Crocs rather than heels. We're seeing more flesh and body-positive styles after 16 months of sweats. Some attendees wore an eclectic blend of mismatched products and trends, while others preferred the cleaner, more robust style of wide-leg trousers and T-shirts. Read on to learn more about the trending casual styles for men in 2022.

Skinny jeans were labeled ’’out” in 2020 — allegedly a vestige of millennial style — while baggy pants, ardently embraced by Gen Z, were “in.” Guys wore looser, flowing trouser forms at Milan and Paris, from Travis Scott’s drapey flares to cylinder-legged suits and sloppy cargos. Although they provide a bold profile and are certainly more comfortable than skinny jeans, there were plenty of skinny pants and stovepipes. The trend is moving toward wearing whatever you feel comfortable in.

Scarves
Bucket hats are not fashionable anymore. Berets and, more shockingly, silk scarves tied securely around the head took their place. The impact was more unconventional than vintage, usually giving plain ensembles a whimsical twist. Some men wore scarves in various ways, including wrapped around the waist, thrown over the shoulders, and even worn as a mask.

Fat Rubber Shoes
Daniel Lee’s rubber Puddle Boots, followed by his Croc-like neon slides, were Bottega Veneta’s breakthrough in men’s fashion 2022. It was pretty evident in men’s shows, as Crocs were seen paired with anything from suits to jeans, helping to enhance the popularity of the original spongy clog. Crocs were presented in simple white, which makes observers wonder if they’ll take the place of your favorite sneakers.
Sunshine Yellow
Yellow could have been considered one of the more difficult colors for men to wear. However, this bright, cheery hue was clearly the color of the season in Milan and Paris. This bright and hopeful color encourages grit and optimism. That explains why it’s now resonating in 2022, especially among individuals who have previously shied away from anything yellow. For a slight glimpse of the 90s, pair it with white, as numerous fashion writers did.

Liquid Silk Printed Set

”Pajama dressing” is a constant trend on the women’s runways but, thanks to designers like Dior Men and Bluemarble, everyone can now wear silky, flowery outfits. Some may refer to it as inflated loungewear, while others are simply thrilled to be able to cover themselves in a bright, colorful, and comfortable design from head to toe. Just throw on a pair of sneakers and you’re ready to go.

Men’s fashion trends of 2021 leaned toward the cozy. While we’re all still leaning toward that trend in 2022, we’re also slowly making our way back to “actual” clothes. So, if you haven’t already purchased one or more of the smart-casual products on this list, accept the fact that it’s time to go shopping!
